What North American and South American territorial predator is a voracious hunter of livestock and deer, weighs up to 220 pounds and can reach short speed bursts exceeding 45 mph?
If your answer was the cougar or mountain lion, give yourself a pat on the back and enjoy a soft drink. A pair of residents in the suburbs West of Milwaukee had the fortune of encountering a big cat through the magic of video, as a transient male was seen literally peering into the window of the home. As cougars are not permanent residents of Wisconsin, the rare sighting in broad daylight has biologists surmising that the curious specimen may have journeyed all the way from South Dakota.
Fox News reports that homeowner Dan Guerndt discovered distinctive paw prints in the snow and confirmed the cougar sighting when accessing his surveillance video. Guerndt alerted wildlife officials of the amazing visitor, and authorities completed a neighborhood sweep for the animal, but the search came up empty. As cougars are protected by federal law, dispatching a beast without provocation could lead to fines or jail time. Residents who spot the elusive animal are urged to call local wildlife agencies asap.
