Not all Christians are staunch supporters of the Second Amendment, while not all priests are blessed with sensibility. In the breaking news blue state of Oregon, Reverend Jeremy Lucas used $3,000 in Parish funds to put himself in pole position for winning charity raffle for an AR-15 and unfortunately, the edge in fueling idealism.
Upon winning the raffle and the firearm, Lucas stayed well within the confines of reason and turned the gun into a pick-ax and a protest to gun violence. While the story should come to an unhappy conclusion here, there is more ammunition in this disturbing plot.
According to Oregon Live, Lucas, a member of an Episcopalian institution outside of Portland, Oregon, completed the purchase of the firearm and completed an illegal transfer to an unlicensed individual. A police investigation was spurred in the wake of Lucas’s questionable actions and authorities determined that was not substantial evidence to merit any criminal charges.
The former AR-15 now rusts away in the mild and wet climate of the Pacific Northwest as a glorified garden tool and Lucas is true an icon for the anti-gun artistic community.
