One of humanity’s oldest crimes is being reinvented, but thanks to the innovations in social media, the crooks are having a difficult time finding victims. While the reality and horrors of human trafficking are a global issue, potential abductors may be attempting to operate in middle America and utilizing carefully placed jewelry as bait.
In a harrowing account from Appleton, Wisconsin, a woman was about to get into her car in a nearly empty shopping center parking lot, when an SUV suddenly pulled into the spot directly next to her. The following is from the daughter of the woman and was posted on Facebook.
“When she got home and out of the car, she found a ring under her windshield wiper.”
The daughter speculates in the amount of time that it would take to discover and examine the jewelry on the windshield, kidnappers could claim a victim. Local police are currently investigating the incident and have not yet found any evidence supporting human trafficking. However, the age old wisdom of “be aware of your surroundings” and “nothing in life is free” certainly applies to all aspects of life.
