While the Cubs look like the current favorite to represent the National League (knock on wood), the areas surrounding Wrigleyville are experiencing a slightly less fortuitous stretch, according to the Wall Street Journal.
In a made-for-pop-culture recipe for disaster, the city’s stringent gun laws combined with a police force hampered by devolving bureaucratic policies has led to an exorbitant display of crimes with firearms.
It’s as if the bad guys have figured out that there is little to no resistance due to the absence of legally owned guns, combined with a constant community demonstration and incessant ideological attack on law enforcement officials. Of course, the elegant solution from local government is to crack down on the infiltration of illegal trafficked firearms into Illinois. Just last week, Governor Bruce Rauner pasted together legislation featuring strict consequences that will allegedly dissuade potential violators, who attempt import guns into the state and metroplex without adhering to the proper registration process and filing the necessary paperwork.
The Wall Street Journal article indicates that 2016 is by far the deadliest and violent year on record in the Windy City and shooting deaths for the year have already surpassed the total for the 2015 calendar year. The 425 victims slayed by gunshots have accounted for 91% of the city’s total murders. A number that is truly disconcerting and unacceptable within US borders.
The logical statement of “More guns equals less crime,” in the case of Chicago needs to be amended to, “More guns in the hands of criminals, facilitates more crime in the wake of strict gun control laws coupled with the enabling faction of government (thank you Daley family), which continues to onerously and selfishly prey on citizens for its very existence and growth.”
One cannot reason with an anthill.
