After enduring a 72 consecutive hours in regards to the plight of apparent perpetual oppression still felt by certain US residents and most notably specific NFL athletes, Georgetown University officials reignited the specious dialogue by offering reparations to the descendants of slaves in the form preferential acceptance to the academic institution.
Though the foundation and societal norms have drastically changed and improved over 200 years, the three decade practice of punishing students at the top of the academic pyramid by implementing quotas and lowering overall acceptance standards will continue as acceptable policy at Georgetown. The university is the initial flag carrier for official affiliation with Catholicism and was the nation’s initial institution to be officially affiliated with the Jesuit tradition.
Georgetown officials announced Thursday in a proclamation shrouded in apologetic tones that the pending admission reparations would be akin to the opportunities available to current relatives of legacies. In addition to the changes in acceptance infrastructure, the university outlined multiple phases in a munificent display of wayward and unchecked atonement. While the ramifications of the institution’s actions at this point exist the outward realm of standing operation procedure, will the ping pong ball on the mousetrap chain reaction infect the construct and framework of traditional university’s with a similar rich and heralded tapestry of academic excellence and societal influence.
