The tragedy and reality of the Pulse night club attack literally blindsided America from all angles. How was a domestic terrorist able to inflict a series of atrocities without immediate and swift repercussions, in a nation where liberties and freedoms for self-defense are guaranteed by the Constitution?
In response to the victims and families of the victims, the folks at the Pink Pistols organization are apparently doing their part and more to empower the gay and alternative lifestyle community to defend itself against a future travesty and preserve Second Amendment Rights by promoting the use of firearms and removing any blatant conspicuous labels and stigmas that scream, “We are unarmed, so have at it!” However, is the core agenda of the association simply constrained to the realm of self-defense?
According to the New York Post, the group has seen a healthy growth rate of membership in the aftermath of the attack, including the foundation of a chapter in Orlando. Founded in 2000, the official website slogan reads, “Pick on someone of your own caliber,” and the organization has made numerous headlines with a consistent pro-gun stance and show of support for political candidates such as Trump.
Many readers who were not previously familiar with the Pink Pistols will be surprised to know that the majority of members of the organization are allegedly stanch supporters of the Second Amendment and do not view gun control as a feasible method in averting violence. “I will not go against banning guns even after what happened at Pulse. Although it touched me deeply I think that you should be able to protect yourself,” said Maria Rodriguez, who lost her roommate in the massacre.
