The socially acceptable application of statistics to ideas sometimes takes a wrong turn into a stream of oncoming traffic featuring 18 wheelers transporting nuclear waste and military-grade tanks.
In the case of the group ‘No More Black Targets,’ the deconstruction of logic and the impending collision with reality is sure to yield a toxic backlash.
According to The Blaze, the organization wants an instantaneous and complete removal of all black-colored silhouette targets from shooting ranges across the nation. The change, prompted by the results of a University of Illinois study found: “Relative to white targets, participants were quicker to shoot armed black targets, slower to not shoot unarmed black targets and more likely to have a liberal shooting threshold for black targets.” In other words, the group believes that trained shooters are “conditioned” by black targets to more-likely fire a gun at a black person than other races – Wow.
So, the ridiculous notion of “abracadabra” and poof the targets adhere to the current cultural standards of political correctness, magically disappear into the firmament, and everyone lives happily ever after, is a bit of a stretch. However, the underlying motive for the group in creating a campaign on Change.org borders on the insane.
Wearing the rose-colored glasses of the blind activists the solution to a major issue in society becomes patently clear – simply eliminate black targets and suddenly the crime rate will decrease and the proportion will even out as young black men are currently getting shot at a rate three times higher than their white peers. There is no word yet if the group has devised a new race-neutral color for shooting targets that will guarantee the increased safety of all people.
As the color of inanimate objects are now being immersed into the politicized realm of racial connotations and societal dialogue, be prepared for various primary shades on building, cars and products to become hotbeds of polarizing debate.
