What happens when you combine ferocious Siberian tigers with modern technology?
Video footage taken at a habitat for these rare felines in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province shows them meandering about until they catch sight of a reporter’s drone flying overhead.
The tigers played cat and mouse with the drone until an aggressive young tiger leaps into the sky and swats the drone out of the air. A large paw filling its screen before losing signal.
The pride proceeded to tear the drone apart, with one literally chewing on the gadget as if it was a bird of prey until the drone started to smoke, which scared off the surrounding tigers. Staff members of the park in a well-protected vehicle then went to pick up the remains of the drone.
Although the tigers may seem overweight, Liu Dan, chief engineer with the Siberian Tiger Park, said they weigh within their normal range. The park increased the tigers’ food intake to keep out the cold in winter. It won’t be necessary to feed them as much during spring. Tiger experts say they will once again be lean in about two months.
