You’ve probably seen or read stories in the news about increased gun sales which has continued even though a pro-Second Amendment president in Donald Trump is now in office. There’s even a TV station in Texas that did a story about that just yesterday.
America’s Firearms Superstore, announced its decision to file bankruptcy
But for all the good news that is being seen on gun sales front, not everyone is seeing the same trend. A major national firearms and outdoor retailer has fallen on hard times, and today, they declared bankruptcy.
The St. Louis Post Dispatch reported earlier this afternoon that Gander Mountain, a Minnesota-based retail chain that bills itself, as America’s firearms superstore, announced its decision to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization, and as part of that, the company plans on closing 32 of its locations around the country. According to the Post-Dispatch, none of those appear to be in the St. Louis area, but other areas around the country may not be as lucky. Many of their stores are located in the central and eastern parts of the United States, around such cities as Dallas, Minneapolis, Chicago, Atlanta, Charlotte, N.C., and Cleveland.
Aside from the store closings, the company, in a statement according to the Post-Disptach, indicated business as usual, with employee pay, benefits and retirement packages remaining unaffected by the bankruptcy filing.
Gander Mountain has faced tough competition in recent years from two other major outdoor retailers – Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops – as it sought to take advantage of the increased gun sales market.
