Only the community of wacky DIY geeks inhabiting various message boards and sites around the net are daring enough to transform a Nerf product into a lethal weapon.
With no disrespect to Chuck Yeager as the first official human to break the sound barrier, Nerf scientist Giaco Whatever has created a device that shoots Nerf darts through cardboard and even wood are faster than sound speeds. The foamy projectiles are loaded in a customized chamber connected to an air compressor and fired through a length of metal tubing at a target of choice. The “too fast to see” darts in real time are captured by a camera capable of filming 1000 frames per second and with simple mathematics, Giaco was able to determine that his concoction achieved speeds of 2.3 times the speed of sound.
While there are currently no awards for of this magnitude, at least Giaco did not lose a limb or blow himself up.
