Iowa has one of the best official state songs residents can sing in celebration to the melody of “Oh Christmas Tree” as they stand to benefit from a slew of legislation passed into law, with Republican Governor Terry Brandstad officially signing House File 517 into action Thursday.
The unprecedented and expansive parcel of policy includes the facilitation of a “stand your ground provision and the legalization of concealed-carry within state Capitol buildings. The evolution of expanded gun rights pushes Iowa into the realm of individual liberties as one of most accommodating states for firearms owners, a notion that could resound throughout the republic and influence bureaucratically challenged local governments.
According to the Courier, Brandstad stood steadfast in his interpretation and adherence to the Constitution.
“I have always been a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and this legislation makes Iowa one of the most pro-Second Amendment states in the country. Expanding the freedoms and solidifying the constitutional rights of Iowans should always be a goal for our state.”
Along with the implementation of “stand your ground” and extended concealed-carry measures, children under 14 years of age in the state are now allowed to handle a pistol or revolver under the direct supervision of a parent, guardian or instructor. This portion of the approved legislation has sparked harsh and immediate backlash from national gun control groups. However, none of the detractors can compete with a harmonious rendition of “Oh Iowa” fueled by the components of freedom.
