Corruption, scandal, tax hikes and constant criticism- why would an individual with any sane part of their psyche allow themselves to be at the forefront of public ridicule in being elected into the thankless public servant position as a mayor? Oh wait, there is that corruption thing which could line the pockets and the pipe dream in hopes of changing the world for the better.
In celebration of Chicago’s greatest contribution to the dubious end of politics (no, not Obama) and virtually transforming the once-great city into a war zone using pork barrel politics and strategic business arrangements with the mafia, former mayor Richard J. Daley is the poster boy for the primordial ooze and filth which a dirty politician is made from. In honor of the legendary politician who transformed the Windy City into the murder capital of the world, LPP presents the Top Ten worst mayors who are currently in office. The real challenge is finding a competent and respected public servant.
The LPP Daley Top Five Worst Mayor List
5. Stockholm, Sweden Karin Wanngård
As hordes of Muslim immigrants are raping and pillaging with little resistance from government or law enforcement, the social democrat elected in 2014 is only part of the problem. In 2016 the bike commuter masterminded a bewildering campaign encouraging city residents to rent rooms to individuals entering the county from the Middle East and managed to raise taxes. In the true atmosphere of rape culture, how does a woman who is indirectly fanning the flames of a major issue continue to win confidence with the voters?
4. Seattle, Ed Murray
This spot could be occupied by a plug and play with the current mayor of Portland or San Francisco. Murray gets the nod, because of the allegations of sexual abuse of minors and the inability to manage the homeless situation and drug epidemic. Add to his failures, the inability to negotiate an arena deal to coax an NBA team to the 15th largest media market in the US, and he is list-worthy.
4a. Quahog, Adam West
While the voice of batman transforms city hall into a roller-coaster circus, West’s highly questionable decision making has come under extreme scrutiny. From allocating tax payer money in investigating water allegedly being stolen as it flows down the drain to approving public monies for the erection of a statue of a children’s cereal box icon, the sky is the limit for the animated city leader.
A consensus choice for dubious mayoral fame because of her failure to resonate with democrats and a soft stance on crime, Hodges continues to blunder budgets and projects. The sanctuary status of the city only cements her in the top five.
2. London, Sadiq Khan
Not one, but three terror attacks. Khan cannot be directly blamed for the violence, but for his passive stance on the viability of the terror threat. Yes, there are bad people in the world and yes, the police force needs to be armed to deter the possibility of an attack in an 0pen society, where an automobile, garden tool or bicycle can be transformed into a weapon.
2a. Springfield, Joe Quimby
In the humorous rendition of a modern day Kennedy in politics, Quimby’s tenure has been marred by ceaseless corruption and the drive to remain an incumbent. At one point to appease voters, he approved the formation of a “Bear Patrol” and subsequently raised taxes. After voters called for impeachment, he blamed the city budget woes on the immigrant population.
The official Daley worst mayor list would not be complete without representing Chicago and Emanuel has done nothing to disappoint. The nation’s strictest gun laws lead to startling murder rate and the growing chasm between city hall and the police force only makes things worse. It does not get any better than when a member of your cabinet chooses to ignore a rail car firearms burglary spree, leading to an influx of stolen weapons used in committing future crimes in an already crowded sea of lawlessness and violence.
Honorable Mention- Portland, Ted Wheeler
In the wake of Trump’s election into the White House, the downtown corridor has been ransacked by violent protests. Wheeler is not responsible for the prevalence of anarchists, but for his policy in succumbing to the demands of the fringe protestors, even in the face of violating Constitutional rights. While the left has been allowed to hold the city hostage at will, public conservative viewpoints have been actively shot down by the mayor and staff.
