Lost within the tattooed entitled sheeple of multicolored hair, more piercings than a circus freak show yokel of a Nancy Pelosi lookalike, cultural indoctrination and of course the prevalence of crude sexual and drug societal overtures making a 1980’s Playboy magazine akin to drinking a ginger beer rather than a shot of tequila, the classic American beauty pageant attempts to gain traction amid the current maelstrom of a news cycle infused with inclinations towards World War III, Hurricanes, and overpaid athletes refusing to stand for the national anthem.
No, this is not a horrific narrative influenced by the plot of Brave New World, but rather the reality of a society on the edge of a possible paradigm shift towards disaster.
On the eve of the 97th Miss America Pageant, the nation is at crossroads in celebrating even the basis of nature’s intended identities. However, hope lies in the notion that fifty one beautiful and talented women can at the very least rally up some sensibility and buoyancy as they vie for the vaunted crown of what is now a sub cultural icon, as US News reports that the competition will begin Wednesday night in Atlantic City and culminate in a nationally televised final Sunday in prime time.
With the plethora of ideological insanity allowed to persist, the script calls for a token protest of the event in prompting the addition of multiple genders included in the pageant. What is more exciting than a 6’6″ pre-op mamazon articulating a smooth segue from the an angry tap dance talent routine and whisked into the heat of the swimsuit portion of the competition? Nothing spells equality and social justice, when the concept of beauty is marred by ambiguous subjectivity triggering a gag reflex. With the lid of Pandora’s box being savagely jarred loose by a rusty nail, does this open up the door for the inclusion of crazy obese cat owners into the rockette traditional line-up of beauty queens? For now we can simply watch and enjoy the broadcast, while singing along to, “…Here’s to you Miss America,” armed with a trusted libation and hope that the drama is as thick as the Miss USA pageant, as beauty and politics is as a delicious as peanut butter and chocolate. Some things should never change.
