The Response To The Growing Murder Rate In London- Plant Wildflowers

It is a reminder of the classic Bugs Bunny gun duel scene with Yosemite Sam, except the opposite. As the battle for weapon supremacy reaches epic proportions after Sam unholsters a ten shooter handgun, the point is illustrated, where will it end? And then Bugs fires the underwhelming punchline.

As the UK continues to impose strict gun laws on citizens, the alarming spike in the murder rate in London, with the weapon of choice a simple knife, articulates the crises of societal engineering and the  consequences of severe limitation of individual self-defense. The cries from the public will probably now demand a ban on knives, and the criminal underworld will hold a mass brainstorming session as to the next best weapon of choice down the line from guns and knives. This vicious cycle illustrates things clearly spiraling out of control in the wrong direction, from the hilarious and relevant escalation of weaponry in the Loony Tunes clip. Where will it end, the biggest and sharpest nail on a two by four, or a good old fashioned rock?

London now owns the dubious distinction of having a higher murder rate than New York City, and the headlines permeating from the British capitol, do not involve reform or a change in policy, but a push to plant millions of wildflowers around the city in a feel good orgy of regressive public policy. The whole campaign smacks of a 1960’s idealistic peace rally, with clipped flowers carefully placed in the barrel of the “evil” guns. Londoners are dying in a wave of violent crimes facilitated by dangerous criminals, yet no politician or activist has the sense to entertain the idea, that if residents are given the choice of self-defense with firearms, then maybe the bad guys will have something to think about before they attempt stab a victim on the cold hard streets. The damaging effects on the crucial tourism industry in an economy that relies on slight vacancy in hotels, has to at least raised a few eyebrows at the local government level and in Parliament. However, London like other European cities, faces the crux of unreasonable self-defense policies which enable criminals and subsequently raises the risk of residents becoming crime statistics.

The push to plant 9 million flowers, may help the native pollinators to thrive, but the blossoms blowing across the sidewalks in a slight Springtime breeze, cannot obscure the bloodstains caused by oversight and failed policy.
