Grab the pitchforks and torches, as traditional science is once again bearing the brunt of another attack. This time however, the very sanity of the human race is at stake.
CBS Philly shares the “vomit from the eyes news” that the millennial generation not only believes that they know it all, but a third of the entitled glass jaws subscribe to the theory that the earth could be flat. This stunning and sickening development was revealed from a UK research firm study.
A hit every three at bats over a prolonged baseball career, earns a ballplayer, a guaranteed trip to Cooperstown. While a third of a generation born between 1980 and 2000, pontificating on the conspiracy of a globe as the shape of earth, sends society straight to hell. The unsettling numbers in the study showed that 9% bought into the idea of a flat earth, 16% were not sure about the shape of the planet (w0w), and 9% entertained the idea that flat was a possibility. Yay reality! F&@%book endorses the delusion in hosting hundreds of “Flat Earth” groups, but of course the moderators limit the discussion of legitimate and relevant topics, such as self-defense.
Over the past year, a handful of celebrities and athletes (including a couple of NBA players) have endorsed the Flat Earth Society, and contribute to the popularity of the insane movement. Not good.
Who is to blame for the complete breach of logic, spreading gradually over the pillars of reason and fact, like an eerie glacier of discontent? Are globes still present in classrooms, or has the spherical shape been deemed politically incorrect or impossible. While the issue is exacerbated by a lack of emphasis on the subjects of math and science in the school system, as educators push students towards college admission and degrees in the liberal arts, the “if it makes you feel good, do it” crowd and the ceaseless awarding of participation trophies are two contributing factors to the craziness.
The problem with Flat Earthers… (Haha. Let’s try this again.) There are multiple problems with Flat Earthers, with the key issue surrounding a prevalence for deflecting the truth and changing the argument when challenged. Not to mention, the time, electricity and bandwidth wasted in forwarding an empty cause. Maybe the folks, who claim the planet is shaped like a disk, should start with basics and comprehending the laws of thermodynamics and properties of energy, before indirectly contributing to the myth of man-made climate change through excessive hours spent grinding over non-existent data within the digital realm in an attempt to debunk science.
