Attorney Rudy Giuliani said on Sunday that U.S. President Donald Trump would not have to comply with a subpoena from special counsel Robert Mueller if one were filed involving the now infamous Russia probe.
According to ijr.com:
“We don’t have to,” the attorney told George Stephanopoulos during an interview on ABC’s “This Week” when the host asked if Trump would comply.
“He’s the president of the United States. We can assert the same privilege as other presidents have,” Giuliani continued.
He also noted that he would rather Trump receive the “Hillary Clinton treatment” than be treated as former presidents have been while under investigation.
The former New York City mayor defined the “Hillary Clinton treatment” as being “no under oath, only a Q&A, and then we get the questions in advance and they write the report two weeks before.”
Stephanopoulos pressed Giuliani about whether or not the president would plead the fifth in relation to the Russia investigation, asking if the attorney felt “confident” that Trump would not do so.
“How could I ever be confident of that when I’m facing a situation with the president and all the other lawyers are, in which every lawyer in America thinks he’d be a fool to testify,” the attorney responded.
“I’ve got a client who wants to testify,” Giuliani added. “He said it yesterday.”
