In times of laughs and rants, Mike Gundy has been a veritable riot.
Previous to the divisiveness spreading like a group of activists creating a six block autonomous zone allocated for prayer circles, virtue signaling, and good old fashioned rancid hippiness, Oklahoma State head football Coach Mike Gundy was a charming sort of controversial. Witty, self-deprecating, and deploying a fan-friendly potent offensive brand blowing up the scoreboard, has gone even into the center mass of quirkiness by donning a mullet after losing a bet to players. And he wins.
Unfortunately, the honeymoon is now officially over, because a minority star student athlete took to the social networks to grovel and whine in playing the victim card. Add the irrational visceral approach to the race relations discussion, and Gundy will forever have an asterisk next to his name for simply choosing to receive his news from a conservative YouTube channel.
It just does not get any better than this. Running back and Heisman trophy candidate Chuba Hubbard, who turned down a big paycheck to return for his senior season, apparently vehemently disapproves of Gundy’s affinity for the OAN news network, a stance that is disturbing on a number of levels. After the Oklahoma State coach posted a group photograph on social media where the broadcast entity’s acronym is clearly visible, Hubbard went on a passive aggressive attack in declaring that he “won’t do be doing anything for Oklahoma state until there is a change.”
Fine. So another entitled scholarship athlete proves that college campuses are afflicted by indoctrination and drowning in pretentious groupthink.
However, Hubbard’s tone and the treatment of the story by the mainstream media now insinuates that getting news from what is construed as a heavily leaning right wing broadcast syndicate is akin to some a borderline hate crime, or at the very least supporting the racial inequality. Gundy, of course, apologized after Hubbard’s social network meltdown in proving the resounding point that society has lost its collective marbles, and nobody on the right side of the ledger is safe from ridicule or career assassination in a blizzard of snowflakes. To the reactionaries, the Gundy’s shirt is simply a metaphor for the ungodly privilege of authoritarian head coach who’s implementation of a system of discipline borders on exploitation.
The former Oklahoma state quarterback and 15-year tenured coach at his alma matter, owns a reputation for being volatile and edgy, but now has to face the implacable and unreasonable force of a toxic movement that strives to conquer and divide a nation, in stigmatizing any individual who holds a differing opinion or viewpoint.
If the culture in the locker room is as intolerable as Hubbard claims, why did the decorated back decided to return to campus life when he was projected to be a solid second round draft pick? Gundy has given the three star recruit from Alberta, Canada, the opportunity to play in a power five conference, and thrive in a system where offense is emphasized.
The only thing that makes sense about this narrative, is how far the line has shifted in the thought police actively attempting to kill the First Amendment through public shaming campaigns and hardcore reeducation efforts. It would have been one thing if Gundy donned a KKK t-shirt, or had the audacity to wear clothing containing a racial slur. The extremists at the top of the ideological pyramid strive to make a group of people beyond criticism, which threatens the basic premise of liberty. Demanding reform and calling for accountability in the justice system and law enforcement is one thing, but cagily and nefariously demonizing free speech is something that patriots will not stand for.
As with the crazy backlash to Drew Brees and his heartfelt message honoring both of his grandfathers’ service in the military, nobody is immune to the propaganda and rhetoric of those attempting to destroy the republic under the false pretense of championing equality. The hypocrisy is lamentable, and the hyperbole is forgettable.
