Gun rights leaders from nearly a dozen states have sent an open letter to voters in Georgia, urging them to re-elect Republican U.S. Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler in order to retain a GOP majority in the Senate.
“We are beyond concerned about the vows by anti-gun extremists to gut the Second Amendment and the Right to Keep and Bear Arms,” the letter says, “if or when the Biden/Harris team is installed in the White House. To preserve the rights we have reserved to ourselves in the Constitution, we must have a solid pro-gun majority in the U.S. Senate. Reelecting Purdue and Loeffler will ensure that majority.”
The letter has some well-known names attached including Jeff Knox Director, The Firearms Coalition; Dianna Muller, Founder DC Project; CJ Grisham, President, and David Amad, Vice President Open Carry Texas; F. Paul Valone President, Grass Roots North Carolina; Kevin Jamison, President Western Missouri Shooters Alliance; Kim Stolfer, President Firearms Owners Against Crime, Pennsylvania; Kevin Starrett, Executive Director Oregon Firearms Federation; Gary Marbut, President Montana Shooting Sports Association; Sam Cohen Co-founder, Pro-Gun New Hampshire, Inc.; and Klint Macro, President Allegheny County Sportsmen’s League, Pennsylvania.
“Please support Senators Purdue and Loeffler,” the activists say in their letter. “Please make sure you have a plan to not only vote yourself on January 5th, but to get every sympathetic voter in your orbit to vote too. This is critical. Please reach out to your friends and neighbors about these important two races.”
The special election outcome will determine whether the Senate has a 50-50 split, with presumptive Vice President Kamala Harris casting deciding votes as president of the Senate, or the Republican majority will be there to serve as a firewall to stop presumptive President Joe Biden from pushing through his gun control plans, which have been described as “extreme” by these and other Second Amendment advocates.
Already, there are indications that some groups are promoting efforts to register voters that may not be legal.
Fox News has reported that Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has opened an investigation of a group called “America Votes.” This group allegedly sent absentee ballot applications “to people at addresses where they have not lived since 1994.”
Another group, Vote Forward,” allegedly “attempted to register a dead Alabama voter, a woman, to vote here in Georgia,” Raffensperger told reporters Monday.
A third group called the “New Georgia Project” allegedly sent voter registration applications to addresses in New York City.
Raffensperger and other officials have advised that voting by non-residents in Georgia elections is a felony.
This isn’t the only election-related issue in the Peach State. Fox News has also reported President Donald Trump called on Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp to “do something” about alleged voter fraud in the Nov. 3 presidential election. The president, who lost the state to Biden by a narrow margin, and many of his supporters believe there was chicanery in the vote.
Another factor was the heavy voting for Libertarian candidate Jo Jorgensen. If her 62,138 votes had gone to Trump, he would have surpassed Biden’s 12,000-plus lead considerably.
Trump wants Raffensperger’s office to check signatures on ballot envelopes, insisting it would reveal “a ‘goldmine’ of fraud.”
