UPDATED: Joe Biden is in big trouble as new polling from NBC, ABC, Gallup and Rasmussen shows the president’s popularity sinking and a majority of Americans think the country is headed in the wrong direction.
According to NBC News, half of the country gives Biden “low marks for competence and uniting the country.”
Over at ABC, a new survey reveals Biden scoring high with Democrats on climate change (78%) and economic recovery (86%), but “Republicans are generally unified against the president on all issues, but overall approval for Biden takes the biggest hit on issues where Democrats’ and independents’ confidence drops.”
Rasmussen’s Daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows Biden still struggling with 42 percent of likely votes approving of his job performance but 57 percent disapproving. The numbers look even worse when it comes to “strong” support either way. Only 22 percent “strongly” approve of his job performance but a whopping 48 percent—more than 2-to-1—“strongly disapprove” of Biden’s performance, and he’s only nine full months into his term.

UPDATE: A new Rasmussen survey released Monday shows an alarming 57 percent of likely voters think Biden is a weaker commander-in-chief than most recent presidents. That percentage has risen from 43 percent in May.
Right now, according to Rasmussen, only 24 percent of likely voters think Biden is a stronger commander-in-chief, down from 32 percent earlier in the year.

Gallup has also been tracking Biden’s popularity, with the Oct. 1-19 numbers being so far the lowest at 42 percent. That’s down dramatically from the 57 percent approval he enjoyed on the day after he was inaugurated.
Looking a little closer at the NBC results, the network notes “the survey finds that 7 in 10 adults, including almost half of Democrats, believe the nation is headed in the wrong direction, as well as nearly 60 percent who view Biden’s stewardship of the economy negatively just nine months into his presidency.”
“Biden’s approval rating in this poll (42 percent) is lower than any other modern first-year president’s at a similar point in time,” NBC reported, “with the key exception of Donald Trump (whose approval averaged 37 percent in fall 2017).”
Over at ABC, the network acknowledges Biden and Democrats have been unable to move their climate change and infrastructure legislation.
The question must be asked, “How did Biden’s popularity fall so far, so fast?” After all, he was something of the media’s darling during the 2020 presidential campaign.
An earlier Rasmussen survey revealed 57 percent of likely voters think the economy has gotten worse since Biden became president. Gas prices are up more than $1 a gallon over last year, consumer goods cost more because it is more expensive to get them to market. Food costs are rising.
People vote with their wallets, as the adage goes, and the economy does appear to revolve around the cost of a gallon of gas.
