A new report at Fox News reviewing Joe Biden’s string of gun-related gaffes demonstrates the president may be a putz when it comes to firearms—especially ballistics—and he’s been doing it for a long time.
A Monday story headlined “A look at some of Biden’s most inaccurate remarks about firearms and 2A supporters” provides an embarrassing narrative about a career politician’s repeated canards relating to firearms and the Second Amendment, starting with a misquote of Thomas Jefferson’s famous observation about the tree of liberty and going all the way to his demonstrably false assertion that a bullet fired from an AR-15 “travels five times as rapidly as a bullet shot out of any other gun.”
The 967-word short essay offers details about the president’s problems with the facts relating to firearms, providing a ballistics lesson to readers so they know the difference between Biden’s remarks and the truth.
Fox News reporter Kyle Morris offers the full details of Biden’s botch about .223-caliber projectiles fired from a typical AR-15.
“A June study by hunting gear retailer Field and Stream looked at the fastest rifle cartridges – and AR-15 rounds did not make their list. Field & Stream listed .220 Swift, .257 Weatherby Magnum and .30/378 Weatherby as the fastest rounds, along with 224 Clark and .22 Eargesplitten Loudenboomer.
“The .220 Swift, according to Outdoor Life magazine, is known as the ‘fastest commercial rifle cartridge’ in the world and releases a 48-grain bullet at 4,100 feet per second,” Morris continued. “The .220 is not listed by the National Rifle Association (NRA) on its practical list as one of the cartridges that could be used in an AR-15.
“The .223 and 5.56 – two popular, high-speed AR-15 rounds – move around 2,700 to 3,100 feet per second,” Morris wrote.
About halfway through the article, Fox includes Biden’s infamous—and repeatedly debunked—remarks about the Second Amendment.
“The Second Amendment, from the day it was passed, limited the type of people who could own a gun and what type of weapon you could own,” he said during a speech. “You couldn’t buy a cannon. The point is that there has always been the ability to limit – rationally limit – the type of weapon that can be owned and who can own it.”
Washington Post Fact Checker Glenn Kessler gave Biden four Pinocchios for his canard back in June 2021, which translates to calling the president a “lying dog faced pony soldier.”
The Fox News article scans the history of Biden’s crusade to ban so-called “assault rifles” and their standard capacity magazines.
“Before taking office – during a campaign stop in Iowa in September 2019 – Biden said it is ‘absolutely mindless’ that ‘we don’t have elimination of assault-type weapons and magazines that can hold multiple bullets in them’,” the article recalls.
In his more than four decades on Capitol Hill, Biden was known as a perennial anti-gunner, boasting in his later years that he spearheaded the Brady Handgun Act and shepherded the Clinton “assault weapons” ban that expired in 2004. It has given him the chance to declare he “defeated the NRA.”
The president has made it clear he will pursue tougher gun control during the remainder of his term, but with Republicans in control of the U.S. House of Representatives, that may amount to little more than the kind of tough talk for which he is famous. Last November, following the midterm elections that cost Democrats the House, Biden said the “idea we still allow semi-automatic weapons to be purchased is sick” and added that owning such firearms “has no socially redeeming value.”
But now, with the growing scandal of Biden’s keeping classified documents at his Delaware residence, the president may not have much spare time to be pushing his gun control agenda.
