OPINION – Appearing at a campaign reception last Friday, perennially anti-gun President Joe Biden asked, “Who the hell needs an assault weapon that can hold, in some cases, up to 100 rounds?”
Maybe he should ask an Israeli living on the edge of Gaza.
According to The Hill, Biden took the opportunity to once again criticize Republicans in Congress, demanding they “fulfill their obligation to keep the American people safe.”
It just might be they’re doing exactly that, especially after hearing testimony earlier in the week from FBI Director Christopher Wray while appearing before the Senate Homeland Security Committee. His ominous warning, as reported by AmmoLand News: “The ongoing war in the Middle East has raised the threat of an attack against Americans in the United States to a whole other level.”
Biden is scheduled to visit Lewistown, Maine Friday to essentially exploit the Oct. 25 rampage which claimed 18 lives; an incident about which a growing mountain of evidence strongly suggests could have been prevented, had authorities followed through with existing laws.
At least one, and possibly both businesses which became crime scenes were essentially “gun-free zones.”
As Lewiston, and southern Israel bordering the Gaza strip, have grimly demonstrated—and the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) has previously advertised—“gun-free zones” make people sitting ducks when deadly violence erupts.
Biden in the past has attempted to perpetuate a myth that the Second Amendment has to do with hunting. His snarky quips about deer wearing Kevlar suggests he failed high school history and never read any of the three Supreme Court rulings, handed down over the past 15 years, which clearly explain the right to keep and bear arms is about self-defense and homeland security, not putting ducks or geese in the bag, and venison in the cooler.
He campaigned in 2020 on a gun control platform. He has championed bans on modern semiautomatic rifles and original capacity magazines for decades, despite the fact that millions of law-abiding citizens own such firearms and have harmed nobody. Indeed, there have been instances during which those citizens used their rifles to defend themselves.
Now, in the wake of Wray’s testimony on Capitol Hill, the Delaware Democrat is pushing hard to ban the very type of firearm which would be most useful in the event of a terrorist outrage on American soil.
As SAF has been lately messaging on various cable networks, Biden has company and by his own words he has refuted earlier claims by leading Democrats that “nobody is going to take your guns.”

In the wake of the brutal Hamas attack on Israeli citizens last month, people in that country are clamoring for firearms permits. They want the ability to fight back so that nothing like Oct. 7 ever happens again.
In the aftermath of the attack in Lewiston, Joe Biden wants to penalize honest citizens, who had nothing to do with the crime, by outlawing the guns they legally purchased and own for all manner of legitimate purposes.
If Wray is correct about the greater potential for a terrorist attack against Americans here in the U.S. the firearms Joe Biden wants to ban could come in handy, at which point he’ll get an answer to his question about the need for a modern rifle, and it’s an answer he doesn’t want to hear.
