Anti-gun politicians moved swiftly to politicize the tragic shooting during the Fourth of July parade event in Highland Park, Illinois while authorities were moving slowly in their investigation of a “person of interest” in the case Tuesday.
Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, a perennial anti-gun Democrat, “called on Americans to vote for politicians who support gun control,” Fox News reported. Translation: Vote for Democrats in the midterm elections, in which the party is expected to suffer big losses as gas prices continue to soar, accompanied by rising prices for all other goods.
Joe Biden was not sure he would travel to Highland Park, as he has done at previous mass shooting sites, according to the New York Post. He vowed to keep fighting for more gun control to counter what he called an “epidemic of gun violence.”
The Brady gun control group sent an email blast hailing recent passage of a gun control package, while asking for contributions to continue their efforts.
Moms Demand Action also sent a mass email calling for the election of so-called “Gun Safety Candidates.”
In his interview with Fox News, Durbin declared, “This has gone way beyond any Second Amendment right that someone can purchase a weapon that creates that much devastation. Voters need to elect people who want real gun safety.”
The gun prohibition lobby in recent years has repackaged its gun control agenda as “gun safety” or “gun reform.”
As more details emerge about the investigation, it has been revealed the gun allegedly used in the attack, which left six people dead and about 30 other injured, was purchased legally. It has only been described as a “high powered rifle” or “assault-style rifle.”
In continuing coverage of the investigation, CNN has gone from using the term “person of interest” to “suspect” when referring to the man arrested by police hours after the shooting. He has been identified as Robert “Bobby” E. Crimo III, a rapper calling himself “Awake the Rapper.” He is 21 years old.
Much of his social media has been taken down.
No motive has yet been determined by investigators, according to published reports.
Published reports say the shooter apparently had been planning the attack for several weeks. He also is believed to have worn women’s clothing to evade capture following the shooting.
