Despite a misleading email blast from a group calling itself the National Democratic Training Committee using a months-old MSNBC report that Joe Biden’s popularity has hit 63 percent “After over 200 days in office,” actual current numbers for the president are nowhere near as impressive, and now there is speculation it could derail or dramatically slow down his gun control agenda.
The Democrat committee uses a report from last May showing Biden’s glowing numbers. That was well before gasoline prices began to soar, a crisis erupted on the border and prior to the Afghanistan debacle, not to mention the effort to put an on-the-record anti-gunner in charge of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety lobbying group recently sent an email stating, “When we elected a Gun Sense President and Gun Sense Majorities to both the Senate and the House of Representatives, we opened the doors for a world of new possibilities on gun safety. Over the last several months, we’ve worked with the Biden administration on executive actions; pressured lawmakers to advance major gun safety legislation; and most recently, pushed government agencies to address issues like ghost guns and arm braces.”
But a new Rasmussen Daily Presidential Tracking Poll released Tuesday shows 47 percent of likely voters approving of Biden’s job performance, but 52 percent disapproving. These figures include 27 percent who strongly approve of Biden’s performance, and 44 percent who strongly disapprove, giving the president a -17 approval index rating.

Look at a chart updated Tuesday by fivethirtyeight.com showing Biden’s popularity and the question asked in the headline is “How Unpopular is Joe Biden?” The chart shows Biden with 45.5 percent approval and 49.0 percent disapproval.
Combine this with a check on public sentiment about the direction the country is taking. Only two out of seven survey ratings show less than 60 percent of the public thinking the nation is on the wrong track. Typically, less than 30 percent of survey respondents think then country is going in the right direction.
Presiding over it all is Biden, the perennial anti-gunner who recently acknowledged he is working to prohibit the sale of modern semi-auto sporting rifles and 9mm semi-auto handguns.
As noted recently at AmmoLand News, the nomination of retired ATF agent David Chipman to run the gun regulation agency appears to be running out of steam after four months. Senate Republicans aren’t budging and a couple of Senators on the Democrat side—Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Independent Angus King from Maine—apparently haven’t made up their minds on Chipman.
So it may come as no surprise to Second Amendment activists that a Democrat political group feels it necessary to be deceptive in its advertising with a message sent via email Sept. 7. “After over 200 days in office, President Biden has hit a record approval rating in office: President Biden’s approval numbers at 63 percent in new polling.” But this is not “new” polling and the Democrat group knows it. Perhaps they’re hoping nobody bothers to check.
Biden has been in office just over seven months. His harshest critics contend he has made a train wreck of everything he touches. Some Capitol Hill Republicans are calling for impeachment over the Afghanistan mess. But the blame would have to be shared by his advisers, whom nobody elected in the first place. They’re just along for the ride, and with them aboard, Biden’s ship of state appears headed for the rocks.
