President Joe Biden is a man whose “flint has lost its spark, and his powder horn is empty.”
That was the critique from the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms following Biden’s disastrous performance during the CNN Presidential debate against former President Donald Trump. It was a 90-minute debacle for the aging Delaware Democrat, and it is having a shockwave effect across the liberal landscape.
From the moment the debate ended, reports were blazing across the wires that Democrats are scrambling to figure out a way to replace Biden on the 2024 ticket.
One day prior to the debate, CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb had publicly called upon debate moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash to quiz Biden about his gun control agenda. Afterwards, when no such questions were asked, Gottlieb issued a statement saying the organization knows why the president was not asked about guns.
“The debate was a political disaster for Joe Biden and the Democrats,” said Gottlieb, “and the whole world was watching. The simple fact is that if the man we saw on stage had been asked to explain his campaign against guns, he would have been shooting blanks.”
Gottlieb has been one of Biden’s harshest critics over the years, and in a conversation with TGM, he admitted the president’s shattering performance during the debate left him stunned.
“The debate was embarrassing, not only for Joe Biden, but for the country,” Gottlieb observed, “but what else could CNN really do? There were moments when it was clear the president’s chamber was empty, so how could he have competently opened fire on the subject of gun control versus rights? At best, he would have been going off half-cocked.”
Biden has long insisted he is a “Second Amendment guy” because he owns a shotgun. His son, Hunter, was recently convicted of three gun-related felonies, including lying on a Federal Form 4473 to purchase a handgun at a time he was a steady user of illegal drugs. The conviction was an embarrassing moment for the president, because he has campaigned so long for restrictive gun control.
“Throughout his political career, Joe Biden has been on the warpath against the Second Amendment, and he has even bragged about it,” Gottlieb said. “However, since the Heller ruling in 2008 and the McDonald decision in 2010, followed by the Bruen ruling in 2022, Biden has consistently been on the losing side of the Constitution. Last night, it sadly became obvious the president has run out of ammunition, and it may be time for him to leave the range.”
The veteran gun rights advocate suggested Biden has clearly been off target his entire political career when it comes to firearms regulation.
“For decades, Joe Biden has been missing the bullseye in his crusade to disarm American citizens,” Gottlieb stated. “His painful performance against Donald Trump Thursday night was conclusive evidence that he has missed the target altogether. His flint has lost its spark, and his powder horn is empty.”
