Two clearly defined and separate incidents over the weekend, served as prime examples of the egregious acts of the mainstream press in convoluting reality and facts while clearly pushing an agenda.
The coverage of protests in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the actions of the counter protesters in Knoxville, Tennessee, though separated by over 600 miles, highlight the disingenuous methods used by two separate news syndicates in highly subjective reporting. Fortunately, for end users who seek the truth, the ability to intertwine the failed logic of both putrid journalistic efforts, proves feasible thanks to digital memory’s nearly a perfect recall.
As the National Rifle Association held it annual Carry Guard Expo in Milwaukee, a handful of demonstrators decided to exercise their First Amendment Rights and gathered near the front entrance of the venue. A group of about ten adults fortified the scene, and displayed their dismay for firearms by holding signs and chanting, while an estimated 150 protesters participated in a planned march, and according to multiple sources, were later bused back to Chicago. Local television affiliate WITI-TV covered the scene and used the following headline to portray the air of discontent outside of the conference center- “Peaceful protests continue outside NRA Carry Guard Expo; attendees are unfazed”
630 miles to the South in the vortex of another public demonstration, the mood was slightly more intense, as supporters of the preservation of Civil War statues clashed with counter protesters. However, the Knoxville News Sentinel chose to employ this interesting title to an article highlighting the near violence between dissenting groups and the presence of 300 police officers attempting to maintain order-
“Counter-protesters outnumber protesters 70-to-1 at peaceful Fort Sanders rally.”
The instinctive media response to downgrade the burgeoning violent undertones of paid demonstrators, and the audacity of the newsroom to assign a nominal value to the efforts of those attempting to staunch the insanity of incessant groupthink in defacing public property borders on appalling.
The rules that the media has set for the coverage of public demonstrations are simple and brutal. In referring to any type of counter protest or public gathering fighting conservative or constitutional principles, the inclusion of the term “peaceful” is necessary, to give the instigators instant credibility and sympathy from readers and viewers. Within the same vein of questionable ethics, the strategic exaggeration of attendance figures to convey a consensus of viewpoint are also furtive tactics employed within the playbook of subversion, as exemplified by the efforts of the Knoxville News Sentinel.
This method was widely deployed during the presidential election, in bolstering Clinton rallies, while undervaluing the influence of Trump’s crowds. In the case of WITI-TV reporting of the handful of citizens within the shadows of a national firearms exhibition, why did the obvious discrepancy between several thousand attendees and a token gathering of dissenting individuals, not garner the following headline? “Thousands Attend National NRA Exhibition, To Small Protest” The world will choose to hide the answer.
