A grassroots gun rights organization is launching a national television advertising campaign warning American gun owners about a sweeping gun control bill—H.R. 127 sponsored by Democrat Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee of Houston, Texas—that they call “an alarming new threat to the Bill of Rights.”
The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms announced the effort will unfold during the first week of March. The group has purchased 25 ad spots spread through more than a dozen media outlets.
According to CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, the “SAVE2A.US” 60-second message will appear on DirecTV, Fox News, Fox Business, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, Bloomberg, the Weather Channel, HLN, OANN, the Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel and the Inspiration Channel.”
The video message may be viewed here:
“America’s gun owners are facing the most sinister attack on their Second Amendment rights I’ve ever seen,” Gottlieb said in a release announcing the campaign. “Jackson Lee’s legislation is really just the tip of the iceberg, because with Joe Biden in the White House, Beltway Democrats are determined to destroy the Constitution’s cornerstone Amendment.”
Biden’s gun control agenda has been public knowledge for almost a year. He advocates for a ban on so-called “assault rifles” and “high capacity” magazines. He wants to encourage state legislatures to enact a requirement that people get a license in order to purchase a firearm. Biden wants so-called “universal background checks” and waiting periods, plus he wants to implement a one-per-month limit on gun purchases.
Jackson Lee’s gun control bill was introduced in early January. She remains the only sponsor, and some observers believe it is a trial balloon to make less onerous measures look moderate. However, the possibility H.R. 127 could gain traction is not lost on CCRKBA, so the group is launching the information campaign to alert members and non-members.
“We’re calling this the ‘SAVE2A.US’ campaign because that’s exactly what it is,” Gottlieb said. “H.R. 127… is a dreadful piece of legislation mandating gun owner licensing and registration, mandatory psychological examinations of gun owners, mandatory gun owner insurance, mandatory minimum prison sentences for gun owners who do not comply, and bans on whole classes of firearms and original capacity magazines.”
He warns that Democrats “are attempting to implement this legislation and could take action within the next few weeks.”
“Anyone who values their rights needs to get involved in this effort,” he said. “We are going toe-to-toe against an ominous piece of legislation that amounts to a clear and present danger to our firearms freedoms.”
