Less than one week after trouncing Kamala Harris in the presidential election, Donald Trump is already being threatened with massive interference from Democrat governors and others whose statements literally confirm the existence of “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS).
Perhaps much of this angst concerns the seventh tenet of Trump’s “Agenda 47,” announced in February 2023. That particular agenda item is the president-elect’s promise to “sign concealed carry reciprocity legislation, fully secure the border, dramatically increase interior enforcement, and wage war on the cartels.”
In a video posted on Rumble, the former president stated, “(We) will protect the right of self-defense everywhere it is under siege. And I will sign concealed carry reciprocity. Your Second Amendment does not end at the state line.”
Democrat governors are uniformly anti-gun-rights advocates who profess to “support the Second Amendment,” but have demonstrably worked against the rights of law-abiding citizens, signing legislation designed to restrict access to legal firearms despite three Supreme Court rulings in the past 15 years affirming that the Second Amendment protects an individual fundamental right to keep and bear arms.
Newsweek is reporting about Trump’s concealed carry reciprocity promise, noting, “Democrats and groups that advocate for gun control have long opposed ‘concealed carry reciprocity.’”
And Democrats lied about the effect of such legislation, were it to pass. As recalled by the Newsweek article, “The Democratic National Committee said at the time: ‘An NRA pet project, this legislation would force states with more stringent gun standards to comply with looser regulations in other states, risking our public safety and making it more difficult to enforce state laws that save lives.’”
That simply wasn’t true. The legislation did not override the laws of any state they were visiting. The legislation was known as H.R. 38 and included this language:
“This section shall not be construed to supersede or limit the laws of any State that—
“(1) permit private persons or entities to prohibit or restrict the possession of concealed firearms on their property; or
“(2) prohibit or restrict the possession of firearms on any State or local government property, installation, building, base, or park.”
Trump has promised that in his second term, “we will roll back every Biden attack on the Second Amendment—the attacks are fast and furious—starting the minute that Crooked Joe shuffles his way out of the White House.”
Newsweek noted that Biden “enacted various policies to try to stem gun violence throughout his presidency,” while acknowledging that mass shootings “are on the rise in the U.S.,” with more than 455 of them across the country so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive.”
In The Hill report over the weekend, various Democrat governors are quoted blustering about their willingness to fight the new Trump administration.
Among those named in the article as preparing to fight were New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, California’s Gavin Newsom, New York’s Kathy Hochul, Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Washington Gov.-elect Bob Ferguson, who deluged the first Trump administration with lawsuits beginning almost immediately after Trump took office in 2017.
What is a certainty is that the new Trump administration will be far friendlier to the Second Amendment than the Biden-Harris administration has been, and American gun owners are looking forward to Jan. 20, 2025 to see how fast Donald Trump moves on his campaign pledge to protect the right to keep and bear arms.
