A decade and half ago, the running joke revolved around the prevalence e-periodical Wikipedia as a lightning quick information resource, but to be taken with a Elizabeth Taylor sized diamond of salt. The obligatory strangler at the pub trivia night and armed with a laptop accompanied by an Irish Car Bomb and employed by the team with a horrendous improv theater pub for a name, would frenetically google for answers, and in the absence of fact checkers the laissez-faire stream of data was either the greatest advantage or dubious curse in winning pizza. Jump cut ahead in time, and within the modern future shock confines of the present, Twitter, yes Twitter has somehow managed to evolve as a trusted source for fact in satisfying the curiosity and fleeting collective intellect of the majority of those born after 1990, and the ramifications are unsettling. The middle age demographics failed in epic fashion to pass the baton as to the concept of a disclaimer in not taking statements pulled from the internet for granted, but at least the steaming pepperoni pie made it all worth it.
The secular and powerful weapon of revisionism is a crucial component in the nefarious arsenal of indoctrination serving to reengineer society, and the consequences and scars of the detrimental attacks across the globe are evident in all hemispheres. Add to the equation, a decreasing acumen of general knowledge among the younger generations, zero accountability, the prevalence of instant gratification, and the inability to properly and effectively research a topic, and a high resolution snapshot of the current social construct is nearly ready to print and distribute. The final component and nail in the coffin of course is social media, and the rest is history, or in this case the complete destruction of the past as a self-driving vehicle of dissent to forward an agenda. While commonly shared truths are being banished to gulags surrounding the volatile waters of the Kuril Islands, the world has been literally been turned upside down, and the recent crises in the Middle East is glaringly indicative of how a reasonably presented idea through effulgent pixels and graphics, can result in a disastrous wildfire fueled by rhetoric, with the oblivious masses making a heedless and corrosive edit to history based purely on the visceral, and the natural inclinations of humanity to conform.
In a recent hypothetical experiment, a group of high school students was asked to “research” a list of historical tyrants from an app or online sources that they trusted for five minutes, and to copy and paste specific phrases describing the individuals posted on various platforms.. Keep in mind that on average, two-thirds of the young people polled are not convinced that the Earth is round, according to a 2018 study.
Here is one pupil’s findings highlighting the bloviations of account holders and actual posts or snippets of posts. The propensity towards trolling or an unhealthy man crush on evil or maybe satanism is call to action to Fortune 500 companies, that “You too, can reach this influentially unstable demographic.”
Mao- “Liberty?? Freedom??…is it start of some “Cultural Revolution” in US??…Mao Tse Tung did a ‘better’ one of that.”
Stalin- “Stalin was more of a leader of a council, and actually the “purge” was of groups that would have killed him and his people if they weren’t the ones killed instead.”
Hitler- “The more I see the brutality of Israel, the more I feel how misunderstood Adolf Hitler was…”
Guevara- “If you tremble with indignation at every injustice, then you are a comrade of mine.”
Kim Jong-il- “Is Eric Trump also the son of Kim Jong-il?”
Castro- “Fidel Castro lived a long and beautiful life and we can forever celebrate that. He died peacefully and not at the hands of those assassins from across the water. Viva Fidel, Viva Cuba!”
Pol-pot- “The ultimate cultural farmer, who knew when to reap, when to sow, and when to weed.”
Osama Bid Laden- “What the difference between Lauren Boebert and Osama Bid Laden? Osama graduated high school.”
Context being context, the postings all extend far past the reaches the ridiculous and insult the basic construct of humor and intelligence, however the sobering takeaway is that a fair majority of young people, and some adults, are unable to differentiate between graphic opinions and the content that actually resembles truth, and will resonate with actually resonate with the vacuous statements.
Unsettlingly, the majority of responses were grabbed from Twitter, and shockingly the leadership of the social network behemoth does nothing to limit propaganda, and in the biggest snake oil salesman job of the information age, pawns off the site to be a refuge for free speech, yet proceeds to moderate the posts of those who do not adhere to the ideology of the corporation. This policy is pretty much standard operating procedure across the realm of the entire tech hierarchy, which has resulted in a major reduction in traffic and interactions with conservative groups and individuals over the last five years.
Disconcertingly, the idea of planting the kernel of a mistruth by an activist, and watching it grow into a believable bloom of accepted reality, is the unfortunate and perpetual aftermath of the effort to reeducate the masses from the ground up. This horrific cyclical mechanism of subversion and deplorable influence is indicated by the shear and daunting magnitude of juvenile to college-aged end-users readily identifying and sympathizing with terrorist organization HAMAS, and incapable of separating the extremist violence from the actual issues that average Palestinian or Israeli citizen face. In lacking any sort of previous knowledge of the complex dynamics of the Middle East, or history, the fact that 99% individuals, and not bots with active accounts, have never even read an objective newspaper article, or book on the subject, or for that matter taken have neither officially studied or debated the issue from both sides is alarming, as hysteria has overtaken a sensible grasp of reality.
The caustic formula for altering history is to simply exploit the masses with underdeveloped critical thinking skills via social media, play the victim narrative card for any unsavory character of the past, and “voila”, Ted Bundy supported the countercultural movement and Black Lives Matter as a rebel, and not an egregious serial killer, who lured hundreds of women to their brutal deaths.
It is literally like taking candy from a baby, as adult pseudo-intellectuals have mastered the art of half-bsing, and half-citing actual fringe academic papers, and combining the prevarication with a catchy meme in recruiting support and followers through viral posting. The soft underbelly of society is simple incapable and unequipped to second guess what is beamed directly into their frontal cortex, and exemplifies why social media on one level is the greatest invention of all-time from a marketing standpoint and interacting with a captive audience, and on another plane, the worst tool humanity has ever encountered, as least to those who continually strive to practice and embrace free will.
As informational physics dictate that for every digital lie posted, there exists a truth at twice the energy expense, because of the expenditures surrounding repairing the damage, the social media leadership has no issue with a hosting a community that this the antithesis to embracing the First Amendment, as long as traffic grows steadily, despite the wastefulness of drama-laden platitudes warping the insolence of youth, and forcing parents to actually be parents, and not mere custodians to the electronic gods of passive brainwashing.
