The Second Amendment Foundation announced Thursday it will “hit the ground running” beginning the week of January 3 with an unprecedented media presence “to warn America of a coming attack on Second Amendment rights.”
SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb said the foundation’s message will be broadcast 220 times during the first week on more than 20 cable television networks.
This is not SAF’s first foray into using cable television to get its message out. In 2021, the organization repeatedly warned American gun owners about the threats facing their Second Amendment rights now that Joe Biden is in office. Remarkably, the Biden gun control agenda never got off the ground during his first year in office, and at least some credit should probably go to SAF and its sister organization, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, which also aired 60-second TV spots, including one that used a brief clip of Biden admitting during an appearance at a CNN Townhall in July that he would like to ban 9mm pistols as well as so-called “assault rifles” and original capacity magazines.
This new SAF message also features that Biden clip.
In 2022, according to Gottlieb, “We’re expecting an unprecedented assault on Second Amendment …Anti-gunners will grasp at straws to grab every headline they can, and make no mistake, they are determined to help Biden go after your rights..”
SAF will broadcast its 60-second message on several networks including CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, Fox Business, Newsmax TV, One America News Network, Destination America, Bloomberg, BBC America, Discovery Channel, American Heroes Channel, SYFY (Science Fiction), TLC (The Learning Channel), TruTV, DirecTV, The Weather Channel, HLN, Dish TV, and CNBC, Gottlieb revealed.
“The threat to our Second Amendment rights cannot be over-stated,” he said. “The billionaire-backed gun ban lobby is fearful of a gun rights ruling from the Supreme Court this summer, and a power flip at the mid-term elections, so they will be pushing Biden and their allies on Capitol Hill and in several states to get things done now, before they lose the political muscle to push their agenda.”
The Supreme Court is currently considering the challenge to New York’s “good cause” requirement to obtain a carry permit in the state. The case is known as New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen and oral arguments were heard back on Nov. 3, the day after Republicans swept the elections in Virginia for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general, and also captured the House of Delegates, reversing Democrat control in the Old Dominion, and setting the stage for a rollback of gun control laws pushed through in 2020.
But there are plenty of challenges remaining, Gottlieb said.
“There is no time to waste,” he observed. “We’re going to hit the ground running in order to grab the high ground and block the momentum of an anti-rights movement determined to smash the right to keep and bear arms.”
SAF is asking viewers to text “PROTECT 2A” to a special toll-free telephone number – (888) 762-0221 – to join the effort “because once you lose your rights,” Gottlieb said, “you will never get them back.”
