The veteran Rasmussen polling firm is reporting that 27 percent of U.S. voters support a proposal in New York City to remove statutes of George Washington “because he owned slaves.”
However, the overwhelming majority of likely voters say “hands off” the Father of the country.
It is the latest indication that self-appointed “progressives” are out of touch with the mainstream.
According to Rasmussen, 64 percent of Republicans and 51 percent of Independents “Strongly Disapprove” of removing public monuments to Washington.
“Democratic voters, however, are more evenly divided,” Rasmussen revealed. Forty percent of Democrats “approve of removing monuments to Washington – including 21 percent who Strongly Approve – while 53 percent disapprove, including 32 percent who Strongly Disapprove.”
The survey of 864 likely voters was conducted on Dec. 3-5, Rasmussen said. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
Eighty-nine percent of Republicans, 77 percent of Democrats and 81 percent of Independent voters have a favorable impression of Washington, Rasmussen said.
Breaking down the numbers further, 75 percent of Republicans, 25 percent of Democrats and 60 percent of Independent voters believe Biden is a worse president than Washington. Thirty percent of Democrats think Biden is better than Washington, but just 12 percent of Republicans and 11 percent of Independents agree.
According to Rasmussen, 22 percent of all likely voters believe Joe Biden is a better president than Washington, but a majority (52 percent) say Biden is worse than Washington. Fifteen percent think there is not much difference between Washington and Biden.
