Just exactly what is wrong with society? Former and current NFL players are lauded for turning the sacred and patriotic ritual of the National Anthem into a misguided and desperate cry for social justice, while athletes who choose to support the Second Amendment and hunting are trolled egregiously for exercising their constitutional rights.
In attacking the rights of athletes black or white, superstar or role player, the cannibalistic hypocrisy is readily apparent from idealistic individuals profiting from controversy and providing absolutely zero answers to the daily grind of issues faced by Americans.
The latest “bad guy” appointed by the mainstream media, first level instigators and select Pittsburgh Steeler’s still tasting the bitter pill of playoff defeat, is linebacker James Harrison. Harrison’s alleged crime, he proudly displayed his customized Ak-47 firearm on Instagram. Philadelphia Eagle quarterback and second year sensation Carson Wentz, recently drew online ire for posting photos of his proficient hunting dog and the aftermath of a successful duck hunt. Wentz quickly went on the offensive against his detractors and fired back to the criticism with an impassioned and witty response.
The Sporting News shares the plight of Harrison, now a member of the Super Bowl bound New England Patriots, in facing the digitized lunacy of the anti-gun and anti-freedom lobby. With the world’s largest gun show on the horizon in Las Vegas next week, there is no word yet from organizers of the SHOT show whether or not supporters of professional sports will hold a special forum to offer perspective for athletes dealing with the blatant existence of reckless idealism.
Harrison, an African American, exemplifies a successful professional athlete, and an individual who embraces individual justice and the freedoms allowed by the Constitution in self-defense. The only negative stereotypes that are present in this instance, are being perpetuated by detractors in the attempted character assassination of a lawful US citizen.
