The southbound journey by rail from Seattle to Portland is supposed to be a graceful and coordinated ballet of the best of what the Pacific Northwest has to offer, with sweeping vistas of Puget Sound, river valleys and rolling hills carpeted by deciduous and evergreen trees.
In the most unfortunate and tragic of circumstances Monday, a 14 car train carrying passengers and crew, wrecked on an overpass near Interstate 5 near Dupont, Washington, leaving between 3 and 6 people dead and 77 others injured. Crews are currently working feverishly to remove the wreckage from I-5, as the major North-South highway route for Western Washington has been shutdown since the disaster. A National Traffic Safety Board dispatched from Washington DC, has arrived on scene and will begin the arduous and thorough investigation as to what exactly was the root cause of the train derailing. Early speculation from various experts points to speed as the probable cause of the accident. Others sources have noted the threats of sabotage to area rail lines earlier this from local Antifa groups on social networking sites as a possible link to what would be one of the largest acts of domestic terrorism in US history.
PJ Media reports that a regional anarchist group tweeted in April about specific exploits to pour concrete onto tracks in order to deter fracking operations. The commuter route from Seattle to Portland includes an expansive stretch of Burlington Northern Santa Fe maintained rails and the tracks are a crucial thoroughfare for the transportation of freight. Eleven miles south of the scene is Olympia, Washington, the home base for a plethora of militant activists as well as the location of Evergreen State College, which made headlines earlier this year for barring Caucasians from campus. One can only hope that the investigation yields that the cause of the derailment was an accident, and corrective measures can be enacted in keeping future passengers safe and arriving at their destination on time.

As Christmas is less than a week away, we send out our thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families.
