Russian President, Vladimir Putin, issued a chilling warning to the west that Syria was just the training ground for Russian forces to prepare for all-out war.
According to an article in The Express by Tom Batchelor, Putin has issued a thinly-veiled threat to the west. Putin boasted of the successes of Russia’s five and a half month military campaign in Syria, emphasizing that he could re-commit the country’s military forces to the region in hours, if necessary.
Putin maintained that the costly operation was well worth the cost to bolster Syrian President Bashar al- Assad and to enhance Russia’s presence in the region. He declared the operation had provided better training for a future war than any war games on home soil could ever provide.
Putin said Russia was able to test new S400 missile system and attack helicopters to see how they would respond in a real-time environment.
Russian in engagement in Syria has been undertaken as an opportunity for Russian to conduct extended military exercises beyond its borders, to re-establish itself as a military equal to the United States and to restore Moscow’s image as a Superpower to reckon with.
