A brand new Rasmussen survey released Monday shows that 57 percent of “likely” Republican voters would give their ballots to former President Donald Trump, putting him way ahead of leading contender Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (13 percent), while other hopefuls trail in single digits.
The survey of 1,031 “Likely Voters” was conducted July 18-20, 2023 by Rasmussen Reports, with a margin of sampling error at +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
In the far behind column were former Vice President Mike Pence (5%), former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (5%), South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott (4%), former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley (4%), former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (4%) and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy (3%), Rasmussen said.
Even with all of his legal troubles, Trump still inspires the crowd, it appears, especially among self-identified conservative voters, of whom “75 percent are very likely to vote in next year’s GOP primaries, and 52 percent favor Trump while 12 percent would vote for DeSantis,” Rasmussen said.
“Among all likely voters,” the veteran polling company said, “68 percent say it is likely they will vote in the 2024 Republican presidential primaries, including 56 percent who say it is ‘very likely.’ Among those who say it is very likely they’ll vote in next year’s GOP primaries, Trump leads with 49 percent, with DeSantis at 12 percent and Christie at eight percent.”
Here are some telling numbers for Christie: “The former New Jersey governor gets 12 percent support from Democrats, 11 percent from unaffiliated voters and 13 percent from liberals.” Can Christie claim any credentials as a conservative?
The Rasmussen poll found lots of interest in just voting next year, with majorities among both men and women saying they will likely vote in the 2024 Republican presidential primaries.
“Men are slightly more likely than women voters to favor either Trump or DeSantis,” Rasmussen reported.
