As social media creates a paradox in existing as both the greatest and worst invention of all-time, the bots, trolls and cantankerous dog parents are assembled in Doom battle formation with trigger fingers itchy, as election season looms. However, the insufferably drama performance theatrics have already begun, in the form of nasty and slanderous tweets played in a melodious esoteric notes, each singular masterpiece caressing the frontal cortex with a deft embrace of symphonic perfection and releasing endorphins.
Boredom aside, the hotly contested race for Seattle City Attorney has morphed into a never seen before species of polarizing Amoeba making everyday politics seem like an amiable hugfest of wine Wednesday with friends, as a long time ago the candidates tore the gloves off and went full alleyway brawl. The voracious internet audience has responded with hedonistic-sized buckets of popcorn in witnessing the blow-by-blow account between Ann Davison, and Nicole Thomas-Kennedy, as the near future of the city hangs in the balance with exploding crime rates and violence in the wake of the CHAZ-CHOP debacle.
In a new classic match-up pitting a reinvented Republican against an impassioned Progressive, Thomas-Kennedy or “NTK” to her supporters briefly skirted with internet purgatory with her tweets, which she later deleted, blatantly insulting through juvenile attacks the entire law enforcement profession and assaulting the basic fundamentals of common sense. She also managed to support rioters with her philosophical justification for vandalism. In creating friction with Seattle police and their union, which have received an abundance of undeserved vitriol both digitally and in the community resulting in officers resigning in record numbers and the decay of public safety, “NTK’s” radical diatribe does not indicate the optimal ideological or psychological profile for a public servant. But again, voters reelected outspoken and Amazon-loathing Kshama Sawant to the city council, and nothing within the municipality surrounding politics is a surprise anymore.
“NTK’s” inflammatory activist rhetoric has tipped over the entire Washington state election cycle into unpredictable disarray, in a chaotic chain reaction that is visible along the entire leftist coast, extending through Oregon and California. As a result of the electronic extremism, Davison, once a loyal Hillary and Obama supporter, has garnered support from some very unlikely sources, including former Democratic Governors, Christine Gregoire, and Gary Locke. The Seattle Times reports that prominent liberals and previous members on all levels of Washington courts share the consensus that “NTK’s” abolitionist platform of “Justice Not Jails”, according to the campaign slogan on her political Twitter account, will negatively impact the remaining integrity of the city’s criminal justice system.
Davison, fostered her own brand of controversy, by participating in pro-Trump propaganda way too soon after campaigning for key Democrats, and provides an antithesis to the typical Seattle liberal voter in calling for accountability in having homeless camps removed and criminals actually prosecuted. If the polar opposite ideologies of the candidates in addressing the city’s glaring issues are not fanfare enough, incumbent Pete Holmes, who was ousted in the primary for his lackluster approach to prosecution, set the benchmark for unjustified leniency highlighted by a criminal allowing to freely roam the streets after being convicted a shocking 72 times. While the compassion for repeat offenders is nonsensical and dangerously inefficient, law-abiding citizens are simply an afterthought, and represent a mere fiscal source in funding a reckless societal engineering laboratory.
Digging deeper in “NTK’s” candidate twitter account followers reveals a disturbing world of educated and accomplished professionals united through an intrepid hatred of the “establishment” concentrated on the local real estate and development industry. In clamoring for the system to be completely torn down for the apparent greater good, the civil unrest which persists through Progressive strongholds such as Portland, San Francisco, and Seattle, may exist as a tool and powerful force prompting a “moderate” societal breakdown and facilitating a re-establishment of land and wealth.
Digital instigators on “NTK’s” twitter candidate wall have deployed the tactic of posting public campaign finance information in attempting to frame Davison and Seattle Mayoral candidate Bruce Harrel with a disparaging lens, and as the election nears, more venom will be fired by both sides. While the Davison campaign has opted for a more subtle social media approach of character assault and discrediting, voters are in for a self-flying vehicle ride of embattled ugliness and zaniness, that is not so much as Seattle weird, but finds that alliances made through one-night ideological stands, turn sour and awkward the next morning, even after an Irish coffee.
As the old phrase states, “everyone stands to lose from the victory of one”, the race to the election finish line will at least contain some intrigue, if not cultural relevance.
