Maybe the rustbelt of Chicagoland pollutes the collective common sense of the Illinois state legislature, or it could be the hangover from six decades of Daley and Obama straight to the side of the head politics?
As elected officials rarely get it right, it is of no surprise that politicians lose touch with the reality that Illinois is largely a rural area and in low population density areas families and individuals rely on firearms for protection, as lengthy police response times completely negate the prospect of dialing 911 as a viable option for dealing with a potentially dangerous situation.
The Benton Evening News reports that Saline county, has joined the patriotic ranks of Effington and Jefferson counties in ceremoniously taking on the title as a “sanctuary county” to hopefully alleviate the threat of the state legislature signing into law additional gun control policies, which will do more harm, than good, for people living far away from cities. The epidemic of overzealous politicians being influenced by powerful lobby groups to make brain-dead decisions is not just an Illinois problem, as the surrender to irrational fears and a dearth of logic threatens to ultimately compromise our fundamental rights.
According to the 2010 census, Saline County has a population of 24,913 and a population density of 66 people per square mile, with the majority of employment affiliated with the mining industry.
