The issue of domestic violence in professional sports is not a new subject, with a number of examples in recent years of male pro athletes getting in trouble for alleged violence against their spouses or girlfriends. Well, a story circulating today from professional golf appears to have turned that on its head a bit.
The Miami Herald is reporting the wife, yes the wife, of PGA Tour pro Lucas Glover has been arrested and charged with domestic battery and resisting arrest after an incident with her pro golfer husband following this past weekend’s Players Championship tournament near Jacksonville, FL.
According to the newspaper, police arrested Krista Glover at the TPC Sawgrass course after the incident, in which it is alleged she assaulted him and did this in front of his mother and their two children. And apparently this is not the first time this has happened. The Herald reports that the golfer told deputies these types of outbursts by Mrs. Glover are regular when he has a bad round in a major tournament such as this one was this past weekend.
Both he and his mother were reportedly injured by his wife in the incident but refused treatment by paramedics. The police report, reported the Herald, also indicated she had been under the influence of alcohol.
Mrs. Glover is out of jail now but faces a court date May 31. The Herald reached out for comment from both husband and wife with both not offering any.
